Two Poems
As the evening approaches
I sit on my lounge chair
Listening intently to the silence
As the sun falls slowly from the sky
I wonder about the days
The times when life is long
When sense is not made and
Talk is allowed to be cheap
Then I gaze at the flowers
The birds rustling in the bushes
And I stop for a moment
As silence seems to envelope me
That is when I hear the "pop"
A surprising sound near the porch
Like popcorn on the skillet
Sunset's glow has ignited the seeds
From the radiant orange light
with its warm blanket of heat
Bursts forth new life - a seed
It falls...to begin the cycle again
Waiting for Hope
I sit here staring at the ceiling
This wasn't how this day was planned
I yawn, sigh, and shed a tear
Why today? Why any day?
The silence of the room is broken
A piercing alarm sounds
Making the heart race again
Leaving only the rhythm of the Ventilator to calm the soul
Tonight seems to drag on
One minute after another
Until time seems to stand still
Leaving only raw emotions to surface
The prayers are no longer eloquent
Instead they spew like painful cries
"Damn this pain-filled world!"
Where is the hope in this moment?
Lord, have mercy, NOW!
