Sketching Out Our Struggle (Four years of wrestling with human sexuality in the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends)

Over the last four years, I have been creating sketch-notes and/or drawings during gatherings of the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends in which I am a Quaker minister. From yearly meeting sessions to pastors' conferences, I have visually caught the conversations, thoughts, and struggles in these 20 images.

Please remember that these are my personal notes and drawings. They represent what I heard, what I saw (in my mind and in front of me), and the processes I experienced in understanding where we have come and where we may be going. These sketches were found spanning four different sketchbooks and hold many memories and experiences for me and others. I have placed them in this blog post in the order in which I drew them.

As with other artists I know, when dialogue or structured thoughts escape me, I need to visually convey what my mind and heart are often groaning inside. I hope that in sharing these sketches you will recognize your own struggle and journey in processing difficult subjects and finding ways to understand and grasp just what you believe.

I will now let the sketches tell the story...

Grace and peace, Bob+
